Korn’s 30th Anniversary Concert Saturday Night Was a Huge Celebration of the Nu Metal Giants
Over the weekend, nu metal titans Korn got to celebrate a major milestone with tens of thousands of their fans in Los Angeles at their highly anticipated 30th Anniversary show at the BMO Stadium. Announced back in March, the show was a marquee night for the band, playing a career-spanning setlist and featuring special guests Evanescence, Gojira, Daron Malakian and Scars On Broadway, Spiritbox, and Vended.
It was a night that held a lot of significance to Jonathan Davis and the guys, with the frontman at multiple points mentioning his love for everyone there, as well as all the fans around the world and the people that made their careers possible.
As for the show itself, they even broke out some tour debut songs, with them pulling out songs like “Coming Undone”, “Somebody Someone” and “Helmet in the Bush.” For that last track, it was the first time they’d played the song off their debut album since 2015. At the end of the night, Evanescense’s Amy Lee joined the band on stage to perform “Freak On A Leash,” which surely made all the elder millennials in the audience hyped.
Backstage, a real cool instance of younger acts paying tribute to an influential band like Korn happened when Tetrarch lead guitarist Diamond Rowe presented Brian “Head” Welch with her signature guitar that just released not too long ago. During their interaction, Rowe thanked Welch for being an inspiration to her all these years, which she outlined in an Instagram post.
“Watching Head on stage since I was a kid and listening to every Korn record brought me a feeling of belonging and confidence that nothing else did. I felt like I was a part of something magical – and it was a feeling that was too powerful to be a coincidence.
“This weekend, I got to say thank you, not only with words, but by giving that gift that I hoped I would be able to give ever since I was that young kid – my own signature guitar – 3 days after it came out.
“It was just meant to be.
“NEVER STOP DREAMING. Life can take you on a wild ride, and moments like these always remind me why quitting has never been an option. My dreams are not just dreams anymore.”
