Mötley Crüe’s New Single “Cancelled” is So Bad You’ll Wish Someone Could Shut Them Up

You know why I think the whole “cancel culture” complaint is bullshit? It’s because the people that complain the most about being cancelled usually have the biggest audiences and platforms, so they’ll never truly be silenced. Think of any major celebrity or political figure that got “cancelled” — chances are they’re either already back or they never went away in the first place.

So when Mötley Crüe, a band that’s been around for four decades and somehow sells out huge shows all over the world and has a Las Vegas residency coming up, writes a song about cancel culture, you know it’s going to be some cringeworthy garbage. And it is. Just look at these lyrics:

Speak your mind, you might get cancelled
Call me trash, burn down my castle
Take a shot, it’s a masquerade
Diggin’ up my dirt on your woke crusade
Supermodel sandwich, selfie in the backseat
She said yes then they arrest me
Lock me up, put me in shackles
Watch your ass, you might get cancelled

Everybody wake up, wake up
Everybody shut up, shut up
Everybody stand up, stand up
Bang your head against a motherfuckin’ wall

Just… what? Earlier in the song they mention the January 6 insurrection like “oh man, those people got cancelled” and it’s like… yeah. Actual people got cancelled — or arrested — for their crimes. But that’s neither here nor there. The song’s just goofy cheese that Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee probably wrote together going “hell yeah, man, this’ll show ’em.”

You can check out the song below if you really want to subject yourself to bad music, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. Their EP Cancelled is out today, but once again — don’t say I didn’t warn you.
