Nekrogoblikon to Turn ‘Right Now’ Web Series into a Podcast

0

I love me a kitschy gimmick band. Especially when they happen to actually sound good. Like Nekrogoblikon, who not only have had a great name but have hilariously been making what I call melodic comedy metal for literal years. All of that goodness of John Goblikon, the band’s lead singer and resident goblin, was put to TV (well, internet TV I suppose) via a web series called Right Now, taken after the band’s song of the same name. There have been four seasons of the series, which focuses on Goblikon and his odd but interesting life, but now the show is switching to podcasting.

Why is it becoming a podcast? Well, I don’t know. Part of the fun of the series was seeing Goblikon do stupid shit a la Space Ghost Coast to Coast (real ones know what I’m talking about). Maybe it’ll keep that same spark by being a video podcast, but who knows. There’s already so such damn media shit we have to keep up with nowadays, anyway.

So far, Goblikon has interviewed people such as Adam Palley, Andrew Santino, Workaholics’ Blake Anderson, Limp Bizkit’s Wes Borland, Comedy Bang Bang’s Reggie Watts, Bad Friends’ Bobby Lee, and Fall Out Boy’s Joe Trohman, among others. And, you guessed it, Goblikon conducts all of his interviews while in character.

If you haven’t listened to the band, think of them somewhat like you do GWAR. Not necessarily because their music is the same—because it’s definitely not—but in how they fashion their onstage performances and public personas. GWAR approves, as they’ve hit the road with Nekrogoblikon before.

John Goblikon is portrayed by Dave Rispoli, who co-created the show with Brandon Dermer. They both co-write the show along with Alex Alereza, who is also a producer for the show.

John Goblikon’s “self-help” style memoir Guide to Living Your Best Life, published by Rare Bird Lit, is also in talks of becoming an actual TV show.
