Green Day Pissed Off Las Vegas With On-Stage Sports Rant
We’re not all jocks and meatheads here, but Green Day—more specifically, the band’s singer Billie Joe Armstrong—feel some type of way about the Nevada spot getting something he really loves: the Oakland A’s.
Because Las Vegas isn’t a town full of lil bitches, two Vegas radio stations responded to Armstrong’s “fuck you” with an even bigger “fuck you,” by removing the band from their playlists.
It all started when Green Day was performing at Oracle Park in San Francisco on September 20, when an incensed Armstrong laid his sporty feelings out on the table because the Oakland A’s, the East Bay’s beloved baseball team, is moving to Vegas. The team, who have been in Oakland since 1968, played their last game at the Oakland Coliseum on September 26. John Fisher, who owns the team, announced in 2023 that the MLB approved him relocating the team out there. And let me tell you, no one likes this.
Local Vegas rock stations KOMP 92.3 FM and KXTE 107.5 have removed Green Day from their rotation after Armstrong’s storm of curse words. It won’t be hard for you to fill in these expletive blanks.
“We don’t take no (expletive) from people like John (expletive) Fisher, who sold out the Oakland A’s to Las (expletive) Vegas. I (expletive) hate Las Vegas. It’s the worst (expletive) hole in America.
“We are East Bay — East Bay for life. Forever — Green Day, East Bay — forever. Can you feel me?”
Armstrong then dedicated the song “Welcome to Paradise” to Oakland. Just in case it wasn’t obvious, Green Day is from Oakland.
KXTE host Carlota Gonzalez wasn’t going to take this shit, announcing on Wednesday that Green Day was green done from their station.
“Maybe he should take a look at the city and the people involved in that transaction than talking SMACK about the city of Las Vegas.
“And hey, I hate to say it and as much as the Raiders suck but when they were in Oakland, they were worth a billion or two. Now they’re worth six. It was a good business decision and the A’s want some of that and I don’t blame that.”
I cannot wait to see what other Vegas outlets cancel Green Day. It’s just, just so funny.
