Members of No Cure Were Stabbed Last Night Trying to Break Up a Fight
They say no good deed goes unpunished and that couldn’t be more true than the fact that two members of hardcore act No Cure are recovering from stab wounds they received while trying to break up a fight.
According to first hand accounts, as well as a report issued by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, No Cure bassist Jake Murnane and vocalist Blaythe Steuer were hospitalized as a result of an altercation. Details as to what started the fight in the first place aren’t clear.
What we do know, however, is that Steuer was discharged after a night in the hospital, while Murnane was apparently stabbed in the stomach and in his leg. The attack left the latter band mate in pretty bad condition, but both men are seemingly in good spirits.
Steuer gave fans an update over on the band’s Instagram page, while also letting people know that No Cure will not be able to perform their upcoming shows in Florida this weekend, but they expect to still play the Merauder Furnace Fest pre-show next week.
“Last night after the Nashville show Jake and I (blaythe) tried to break up a fight and ended up both getting stabbed pretty bad.
“We are both going to be okay, however Jake is in worse condition. I got discharged this morning after they stitched up my arterial bleed, but Jake is still in the hospital. He’s got 29 staples in his stomach, and 10 stitches in his shin. There is a good chance we will look in to some kind of merch drop or something to help with his medical expenses, but everything is still developing.
“SADLY, due to getting a little bit stabbed we will be missing both of our Florida shows this weekend, but we will still be ripping the Merauder Furnace Fest Pre Show next week.
“Nice try, but it ain’t that easy to stop the stainless steel”
Despite the harrowing situation, there’s a bit of a silver lining, as the 43-year-old asshole James Lucas Smith was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault. The following is directly from the police department’s report:
“James Lucas Smith, 43, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault following a fight at Cobra Bar, 2511 Gallatin Avenue, during which he is accused of stabbing two men who were attempting to break it up. They were taken to area hospitals, one with serious injuries.
“Smith fled and witnesses observed him attempting to throw a knife onto the roof of Walgreens at 2500 Gallatin Avenue. A knife was recovered in the parking lot close to where he was taken into custody. Smith is being held in lieu of $50,000.”
