Slayer Played Their First Show Back and They Kicked Some Serious Ass
Say what you will about whether Slayer should have reunited or not (we’ve got opinions…), but the decision’s been made, the die’s been cast, and over the weekend they were in Chicago to play Riot Fest. It was their first show back since they finished their “final” world tour and by the sounds of things, it seems like things went off without a hitch.
Never mind that various members seemingly hadn’t spoken to one another in a few years or that Kerry King had his solo shit coming out when the reunion was announced. Despite all the press and questions about whether the people in Slayer even really liked each other at all, they ripped through a 20-song set filled with songs from throughout their career. They even included some unexpected tracks that hadn’t been played in a long time.
The setlist was as follows, according to Setlist.fm.
- South Of Heaven
- Reborn (first time live since 2014)
- Blood Red
- Postmortem
- Repentless
- Payback
- Temptation
- Jihad
- Seasons In The Abyss
- Born Of Fire
- War Ensemble
- Hate Worldwide
- Disciple
- Dead Skin Mask
- Hell Awaits
- 213 (first time live since 1998)
- Mandatory Suicide
- Raining Blood
- Black Magic
- Angel Of Death
As you can see in the clips below, Slayer look like they put on a hell of a show. Seems that even after five years away from the spotlight, the decades of playing together that preceded things kicked in.
Slayer’s next show will be this weekend at the Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky. After that, the next opportunity to catch Slayer live will be the Aftershock festival in Sacramento, California on October 10.
