Jane’s Addiction Cite Perry Farrell’s “Mental Health Difficulties” for Hiatus, Canceled U.S. Tour
Well, this isn’t the most unexpected turn of events given what went down over the weekend, but it’s definitely a bummer for fans. Within the last hour, Jane’s Addiction (minus Perry Farrell) released a statement explaining that they’re shutting down their tour over concerns of Farrell’s well-being.
News of the situation was posted individually by Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins, and Eric Avery where they shared the following statement:
“Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour.
“Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.
“We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis.
“Our hearts are broken. Dave, Eric and Stephen”.
Additionally, the band itself put out a statement explaining their decision making as far as ending the tour and how fans can get reimbursed for any tickets they may have bought for upcoming shows.
“To all the fans,
“The band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group.
“As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour.
“Refunds for the cancelled dates will be issued at your point of purchase – or if you purchased from a third-party resale site like StubHub, SeatGeek, etc, please reach out to them direct.
“Thank you, Jane’s Addiction”
All of this came to a head when Farrell looked to start a physical confrontation with Navarro during the band’ show on Friday the 13th in Boston. At one point in the show Farrell, who may or may not have been intoxicated during the show, shoulder-checked Navarro for seemingly no reason at all before getting in his face and thoroughly cursing him out.
Considering how the attack came out of nowhere, Navarro was understandably confused by the whole situation and tried to keep playing while Farrell continued to berate him. Farrell didn’t stop, which led Navarro to stop playing and shove him away from him, then causing Farrell to try—and fail—to throw a punch. The band’s crew restrained Farrell and dragged him offstage, before canceling the rest of the concert.
Now the rest of the tour got the axe. Hopefully at least Farrell will get the hope he needs.
