Jon Schaffer Sentencing Delayed Again to Late October
Iced Earth guitarist, alleged insurrectionist, and dude who’s been finding out after fucking around four years ago, Jon Schaffer, has had his sentencing rescheduled once again. Schaffer, a “founding lifetime member” of the Oath Keepers, holds the distinction of being the first person in the entire case to plead guilty and agree to cooperate with prosecutors. So, I’m not sure what kind of oath Schaffer is supposed to be keeping, but I’m pretty sure you can get him to break it very quickly by threatening legal action.
According to The Republic, Judge Amit P. Mehta set a deadline of October 14 for both parties to file sentencing memoranda, and set the sentencing to October 25. Apparently the delays in sentencing come because of a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision whose impact is still being interpreted by lower courts. Schaffer was originally scheduled to be sentenced in February and his sentencing has been postponed five different times.
In their most recent request for a delay, the prosecutors stated:
“The United States seeks a brief continuance to assess the impact of the (U.S. Supreme Court) decision. Such a continuance would not prejudice the defendant or the Court; to the contrary, it would help to ensure a uniform and consistent approach before each judge of the District and Circuit.”
According to Blabbermouth, the same judge already sentenced Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes an 18-year prison sentence for his involvement in the January 6 temper tantrum, so good luck to Schaffer in what he can hope for frum Judge Mehta. I heard that Judge Mehta is so strict that, the last time a musician appeared before him, they sentenced the defendant to a lifetime of playing with David Draiman. Legend has it that that’s how Disturbed was formed in the first place.
