Linkin Park Unveil New Album From Zero, Introduce Emily Armstrong as New Vocalist

More than 100,000 people signed onto YouTube and another nearly 26,000 more watched live on Instagram as the insanely influential nu metal band Linkin Park announced not just a new album, but introduced a new logo and the band’s new vocalist, Emily Armstrong.

Emily Armstrong. the co-founder of Dead Sara, will be taking the place of the late Chester Bennington, who died in 2017. Since then, the band’s been largely silent, occasionally releasing collections of rarities and greatest hits. That all started to change a couple months ago, as rumors began to swirl that Linkin Park was considering coming back. Some people said it was that Sum 41 guy, others said it was Evanescence’s Amy Lee, Orgy’s frontman revealed it would ultimately be a female singer.

And it turned out that last one was dead on the money.

In front of a crowd of screaming fans, the band played with Armstrong holding it down. They introduced the first new track in seven years, “The Emptiness Machine.” The big moment came when they launched into “Somewhere I Belong” and “Crawling.” Over the course of the livestream, they played songs from most of their discography, highlighting Armstrong’s vocal range. As a fan from back in the day, I’m so excited to say she fucking nails it.

The great thing about Armstrong is she sounds like she fits perfectly in with the band, sounding close enough to Chester without sounding like a carbon copy. She’s got grit when she needs it and an incredibly powerful voice when necessary.

Honestly, the reveal was absolutely nailed.

Along with Armstrong’s reveal, the band announced that Colin Brittain was taking over as the band’s drummer. Fans also got a glimpse at the band’s new logo and prior to the show’s launch, they had a note revealing that the new album’s title is From Zero and it’s due out on November 15.

Speaking of the new album, Mike Shinoda said it’s all a reference to Linkin Park’s origins, all the way before the band was known as Linkin Park.

“Before Linkin Park, our first band name was Xero. This album title refers to both this humble beginning and the journey we’re currently undertaking. Sonically and emotionally, it is about past, present, and future—embracing our signature sound, but new and full of life. It was made with a deep appreciation for our new and longtime bandmates, our friends, our family, and our fans. We are proud of what Linkin Park has become over the years, and excited about the journey ahead.”

Finally, the band revealed that they’ll be doing a world tour of six shows later this month. The run will start on September 11 in Los Angeles at the Kia Forum and will come to an end on November 11 in Bogota, Colombia. The full list of dates can be found below.
