Pelican is Done Tracking Their Upcoming Seventh Album

0

It’s been five years since the release of Nighttime Stories, the sixth album from Chicago-based post-emo stoner deathgaze quartet Pelican. Five years is a long time when you consider that the entire pandemic happened in those five years. Does it feel like the same world today that it was in 2019? Not really. So it’s about time that we had a new Pelican album for the new world.

In a post on their Instagram yesterday, Pelican gave an update about where they are with their upcoming seventh album:

“Elated to say we have finished tracking our upcoming 7th album, our first with founding guitarist Laurent Lebec since 2009. Now begins the long process of mixing, mastering, & manufacturing, but we can safely say it’ll be worth the wait. If you want a preview of the new songs there are a couple of live opportunities coming up sooner than later.”

You’ll remember that the band announced their first two-song release with their original guitarist, Laurent Schroeder-Lebec, back in March, “Adrift” b/w “Tending the Embers,” which was released on cassette for anyone who still has their old tape deck. This next record will mark the band’s first full-length album with Schroeder-Lebec in 15 years.

As the band mentioned in the post, Pelican has a few dates (very few dates) coming up if you want to hear some of the new material life, so here’s where you can catch them in the near future:

9/7 – Chicago, IL @ Metro Chicago ^

10/25 – Asheville, NC @ Heavy Mountain Fest %

^ w/ Russian Circles, Djunah

% w/ TWDY
