Abigor Guitarist Peter Kubik Dead at 49
Austrian black metal band Abigor announced some sad news today, as they revealed their bassist/guitarist Peter Kubik had passed away. He is survived by his wife Lucia-Mariam Fåroutan-Kubik.
According to the band’s post on Facebook, Kubik committed suicide, which they described as saying he “walked through the gate by his own hand, through his own will.”
“PK 1975 – 2024 immortal in his legacy – blood (family), soil (home) and monuments of Black Metal art. walked through the gate by his own hand, through his own will. (photo below May 1995 during the recording of Nachthymnen. more following during the next days. keep your respectful distance to the bereaved for now!)”
Kubik founded Abigor with Thomas Tannenberger, who also played multiple instruments in the project. He played on every release from their 1994 debut album Verwüstung / Invoke the Dark Age until last year’s Taphonomia Aeternitatis – Gesänge im Leichenlicht der Welt.
Our condolences go out to Kubik’s surviving friends, family, and former collaborators during this difficult time.
