Joe Duplantier on Next Gojira Album: “We Wanna Take a Clear Step Forward and Upward”

0

When Gojira was announced as the opening act for Korn’s 30th anniversary tour back in March, that seemed like a cool opener for the nu metal giants. But after Gojira’s performance at the Olympics blew everyone away, it feels like everyone is talking about Gojira and, meanwhile, who’s this band called “Corn”?

Well, if you’re interested in what’s next from Gojira, they’ve been working on their eighth studio album for a little while now, the follow up to their 2021 album Fortitude. In October last year, drummer Mario Duplantier confirmed they were working on the next album and said it would be different than Fortitude, specifically saying it’s “a bit early to say but I have a feeling it is going to be heavier.”

Now, in a recent interview with Loudwire Nights, frontman Joe Duplantier gave a bit of an update on the next album. While Joe Duplantier didn’t give a lot of information when asked what the new record would sound like, he confirmed what his brother said that it was going to be different:

“I wish I could… It’s not a secret, but I’ve gotta say we’re in the middle of it, and until it’s completed, it’s hard to tell people what it’s gonna be. And also, I don’t want to. I want people to be surprised. But we’re working. We’re trying to deliver something that is meaningful and impactful. We’re very ambitious in terms of writing songs and the quality of it. And we wanna take a clear step forward and upward with this album. So we’re putting all our love and energy on it.”

So the next album will be a “step forward and upward,” which is always a good thing no matter how many fans want bands to just keep remaking their first album. But there’s still no idea of when we’ll get to see this upcoming record.

Still, if you can’t get enough of Gojira after their Olympic performance earlier this summer, here’s where you can catch them on the Korn 30th anniversary tour:
