Sid Wilson of Slipknot Gives Update on Injuries and Warns “Don’t F*ck Around with Fire. It’s Going to Win Every Time.”

Following the recent incident in which Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson was involved with some sort of explosion last week, we now have a few more details about what happened. Wilson spoke to Fox News  about what happened and explained that he was on his own property in Iowa working with a wood burn pile:

“A few nights ago, I lit it and let it burn down. So, the next day, I went to check it to see, you know, how much was left, if anything. And there was a certain amount of debris around the side still left, so I, like a dummy, [did] what I’m not supposed to do, but I added some gas to it.”

He continued:

“And then I started looking around for a long branch to kind of be at a distance to light it, and then I couldn’t find one immediately. So, my lack of patience got the better of me, and I was like, screw it. I’ll be all right, you know? And I squatted down and reached out and lit it, and it just, it was really humid out so there was still a lot of vapors lingering around in there, and it just … woof. Exploded.”

Shout out to our sister site Metal Injection for explaining to anyone in the metal community who didn’t already know what the fuck a burn pile is, because I admit I had no idea. Apparently, it’s a pile of wood and debris that you burn to reduce the chances of a wildfire. What I don’t understand is why it would ever seem like a good idea, even for a moment, to add gasoline to it. Am I missing something here?

Describing his injuries, Wilson said:

“My whole right arm is bandaged up, half of my left arm. My face is basically melted from nose down. But the swelling’s gone down, and they said the face is kind of amazing that it’s regenerative, it happens real fast, seems to heal quickly.”

That sounds like it’s going to be a bit of a healing journey, but Wilson, while certainly upset with himself, seems to be thankful it’s not worse:

“I’ve had better days, I guess, but I’m alive, so I’m doing good.”

Wilson told Fox News his primary message for people is this:

“Don’t fuck around with fire. It’s going to win every time.”

I feel like that would make a great new slogan for Smokey the Bear.

We at MetalSucks certainly wish Sid Wilson a speedy recovery, and we’re very glad it wasn’t worse.
