Glacial Tomb’s “Stygian Abattoir” Streaming Now

Self-described “sludge-corrupted death metal” outfit Glacial Tomb dropped a punishing new single earlier today titled “Stygian Abattoir” and you’ve gotta check this one out. The second single off their forthcoming album Lightless Expanse, this new track is brutal and unrelenting in the best ways.

Speaking of the track, vocalist and guitarist Ben Hutcherson said it was immediately obvious where this track would fall on the new album, opting to hit listeners in the face right off the rip rather than bury what they’ve got in store.

“We knew that Stygian Abattoir was the album opener after the first time we played it. It’s fast. It’s unrelenting. It is an amuse-bouche of blast beats and death growls that gives the listener an overview of the record without showing our hand completely. I wanted to make sure that the lyrics established a thematic foundation for the rest of the album while also being as direct and unrelenting as the music, hence the line “mankind is a disease.””

Bolstered by the edition of bassist David Small, the band worked on Lightless Expanse through 2021 and 2022. Since then, they’ve been fine tuning the hell out of the thing, making it as brutal and heavy as possible while detailing “the horrors of existence, captured with authenticity and meticulous attention to detail.”

Lightless Expanse will be available on September 20 via Prosthetic Records, but you can preorder your copy today.

Glacial Tomb also has a buncha live dates scheduled throughout the rest of the year. You can find the full list of dates and venues below.
