Sleep Token to Release New Graphic Novel Today
As culturally irrelevant comedian Jerry Seinfeld might say, what is the deal with Sleep Token? The band are so enigmatic that nobody really knows who is in the band. The band members are simply known as Vessel, II, II, and IV. And there’s this whole backstory about Vessel worshiping an abusive deity named Sleep and all of the songs are “tokens,” or gifts of sorts, to Sleep. Get it? Sleep Token. Well, after years of making fans dig through social media, pre-recorded segments at concerts, music videos, and the two interviews the band has ever done, it seems like some things may become clearer today, as Sleep Token are releasing a graphic novel.
Sleep Token announced on Instagram Friday the new graphic novel entitled Teeth of God, which is apparently being put out in conjunction with Sumerian Records. The Instagram post reads:
“Behold,
“‘Teeth of God’ – a brand new offering in the form of a graphic novel.
“Available Monday 19 August in limited bundles.
“Follow to join the enlightened and obtain early access.”
Fans in the comments were pissing themselves over the fact that they’re finally getting concrete lore about the band that they don’t need to go digging for. It does seem incredibly likely that this graphic novel is going to be related to the whole weird cult shit and this god called Sleep. Besides the fact that the creepy-sounding caption on the Instagram post was clearly referencing Sleep, there’s the fact that the name Teeth of God has come up before.
A website called Boolin Tunes put together a shockingly extensive explanation of the known lore of Sleep Token as of January 2023, and boy is that a deep rabbit hole to travel down. It described the most recent clue from the band (at the time of that writing) which was a banner that the band unveiled at some of their live shows which had written (in the band’s special alphabet/cypher) the following:
“I am hunting something and in turn that same thing is hunting me. The beholder, the void beyond. I am the line between. I am the teeth of God.”
I’ll give them this much: Sleep Token’s lore is suitably creepy, especially when you end up writing an article about them at 2 AM and you live alone. It will be interesting to see how much this new graphic novel will spell out.
You can get the book here.
