Death Angel Releases Statement About Tour Cancellation After Drummer’s Remarks
There’s definitely some tensions behind the scenes of the Death Angel camp right now. On Monday, we reported that Death Angel was dropping off the W.A.S.P. tour, with Armored Saint taking their place. Everyone just kind of assumed that this was because Death Angel vocalist Mark Osegueda is vocalist for Kerry King’s solo project and will therefore be busy touring with Kerry King, something he couldn’t reveal publicly at the time that they originally booked the tour with W.A.S.P.
So okay, that’s fine, they needed to cancel. Who would have expected that to cause drama? Well, apparently, it did, because Death Angel drummer Will Carrol made some comments on social media where he called the reason that the tour was called off “obvious” and referred to it as a “BETRAYAL,” in all-caps so you know it was, like, a big one.
Well, in a move that was probably meant to smooth things over but seems likely to just call more attention to the drama, Death Angel released a statement on their Facebook, stating:
“In light of recent events we’d like to set the record straight on a few things. We unfortunately had to drop off of the WASP tour due to various unforeseen circumstances and numerous scheduling conflicts that arose. We are more than appreciative of Blackie Lawless and the entire WASP camp for so graciously giving us the opportunity and wish them a very successful tour.
“Death Angel is commited (sic) to giving you the fans, only the very best of what we have to offer and we look forward to getting back to you all very soon.
“Respectfully,
Death Angel”
There is absolutely nothing more metal than ending a statement with the word “Respectfully,” is there? It kind of looks like the band are doing a little damage control, but I’m not sure if they’re really controlling much of anything right now.
Lambgoat makes a good point on this one that I double checked on, and there’s actually very little conflict between the planned W.A.S.P. tour and Kerry King’s announced tour dates. The only date that really conflicts is November 6, when King is scheduled to play in Mexico while the W.A.S.P. tour will be travelling from Denver to Minneapolis. It sounds like Death Angel would only need to cancel two days or so and let Osegueda fly down to Mexico, right? Why did they have to pull out of the whole thing?
