Bloodstock Festival Unveils Bust of Lemmy With His Ashes Inside
How many things can be done with Lemmy’s ashes? They seem to have popped up in a million different places. Rock icon and Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister had his ashes put inside some bullets and gifted them to some of his friends including Rob Halford and Doro Pesch. Metallica’s James Hetfield got one of the bullets and had the ashes tattooed onto one of his middle fingers. Two members of the Motörhead road crew also got tattoos with Lemmy’s ashes. Some more of his ashes ended up in a giant metal statue of him at Hellfest Open Air festival. Some of them were enshrined at Wacken Open Air as well. And some of them ended up at the Rainbow Bar & Grill in West Hollywood. It gives a new meaning to the phrase “There’s enough of me to go around!” *rimshot*
According to Lambgoat, the latest open-air festival to commemorate Lemmy with his own ashes is Bloodstock Festival in Catton Park, Derbyshire in the United Kingdom. The festival, which took place this past weekend, unveiled a bust of Lemmy containing some of his ashes. The memorial at Bloodstock will also feature a number of Lemmy’s personal items like his hat, coat, and boots, as well as Milky Way bars from the band’s last tour in 2015. Do Milky Way bars not go moldy? I think those would be pretty moldy.
Bloodstock festival director Vicky Hungerford shared a statement on the tribute:
“We were humbled and honoured to be approached by Motörhead management to have Lemmy’s ashes at Bloodstock.
“Lemmy holds a very special place in everybody’s heart, but to myself and my husband, he was the reason we met and fell in love. Nothing will mean more to us and the Bloodstock family than to honour his legacy and have Lemmy forever at Bloodstock.”
That’s the most romantic story I’ve ever heard that involves the earthly remains of a dead man. And it proves, once again, that Lemmy is somehow stronger than death and lives on forever in statues, bullets, and James Hetfield’s middle finger.
