GoFundMe Started to Cover Funeral Costs for Former Spiritbox Bassist Bill Crook

0

In an all too common practice these days, the friends and family of the late Bill Crook have had to reach out to the kindness of strangers on the internet by opening a GoFundMe page to help cover costs associated with laying the ex-Spiritbox bassist to rest.

Started yesterday by Crook’s former A Textbook Tragedy bandmate Kai Turmann, the page initially sought to raise $20,000 CAD (about $14,445.30 USD) but managed to surpass that goal in an hour an a half. Burgeoned by 340 donations at the time of this post, some bands like Architects and The Ghost Inside participated with significant contributions.

Included on the donation page was a statement from Turmann that read as follows:

Last week, we lost a beloved friend and family member, Bill Crook. My name is Kai Turmann, and Bill and I have been best friends since we were 10 years old. So many people are grieving Bill’s passing, but none more than his wonderful mother, Linda. Bill was Linda’s only child, and she loved him so, so much.

While she navigates this unimaginable loss, I’m reaching out to Bill’s large network of friends and loved ones to ask for any donations that can help Linda cover the costs of the memorial, and any other expenses she is incurring during this incredibly difficult time. We know that many of you wish to celebrate Bill’s life with those who loved him, and we will share details about a Memorial Service once finalized, with an option to attend virtually for those unable to be present.

Every dollar donated will go directly to Linda. This fundraiser has been created with her blessing, as well as her expressed gratitude and love to all of us who loved Bill.

“Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the force.”

We’ll miss our friend.

Thank you so much,

Kai Turmann

With so much support for the page, the donations have already exceeded the family’s expectations. As such, Turmann said Crook’s family would be using the additional funds to help care for Bill’s cats, as well as a large donation to DW Poppy’s music program.

Crook was a member of Spiritbox from 2018 to 2022 and was credited for providing backing vocals on the band’s 2021 album Eternal Blue. In the days since news of his passing was made public, fans and fellow musicians alike showed an outpouring of love, loss, and respect for Crook.

His former bandmates in Spiritbox especially wished him farewell, having spent years with the band during an important time in their career.

Spiritbox vocalist Courtney LaPlante posted “I loved you. I love you. I always will.” Meanwhile, Spiritbox guitarist Mike Stringer shared a number of photos featuring himself and Crook along with his condolences.

“I’ll miss you. Thank you for being my friend, and my brother. I love you Bill.”

If you have the means, please consider donating to the aforementioned GoFundMe. We at MetalSucks want to offer our deepest condolences to Crook’s surviving family, friends, and current/former bandmates during this trying time.
