Who doesn’t like a great supergroup? Formed last year, this quintet is full of some verifiable heavy hitters: Armored Saint’s John Bush, former Vio-lence and current Kerry King guitarist Phil Demmel, Shadows Fall drummer Jason Bittner, Adrenaline Mob’s Mike Orlando, and Exodus’ Jack Gibson. If that lineup doesn’t get your nipples hard, I don’t know what will.

Metal Gods (Century Media)
Remember that 2004 track “The Book of Heavy Metal”? This is those guys. Sure, that’s a reductive way of describing the power metal act that’s currently celebrating its 25th year, but Metal Gods is their seventh full-length release and after a couple listens, I personally dig it. Turn this one on and try to not throw up the horns. It’s impossible.

Rite Here Rite Now: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Loma Vista Recordings)
You either love this band or you hate them. There’s no inbetween. With the recent release of their concert film Rite Here Rite Now a few weeks back, this is the official release of that movie’s soundtrack. The whole thing was recorded during the band’s two shows in Los Angeles last year and the sound quality is pretty damn good. It also includes the new song “The Future Is A Foreign Land,” so it’s got that going for it.
Powerwolf
Wake Up The Wicked (Napalm Records)
These guys are the perfect example of a band that’s big in another part of the world that most American metal fans may not be aware of. Yet for the last 21 years, Powerwolf’s been gaining steam and after their first North American tour now under their belts, it seems they’re poised to finally cross the pond. If you like epic power metal, definitely check this one out.
Summoning The Lich
Under The Reviled Throne (Prosthetic Records)
Fantasy nerd death metal is probably the best way to describe Summoning The Lich and their latest release Under The Reviled Throne revels in the theatrics of it all. We actually have a review of this one up on the site, where C.C. Delorean said “this is a very self-aware album” in which “you never quite know which direction the music is going to go, but every time it arrives at its inevitable conclusion, it just feels right.”
