Gary Holt of Slayer Defends Taylor Swift and Calls Beyoncé “The Most Overrated Talent on Earth”

There’s nothing our readers love more than seeing a headline that mentions Taylor Swift. I’m sure that plenty of people will flood our comment section to tell us how happy they are to see Swift getting even more coverage from the media. Anyway, guitarist Gary Holt of Slayer kind of likes Taylor Swift and thinks Beyoncé is overrated.

In a recent appearance on the Scandalous Podcast, which was reported on by Loudwire, Holt had some opinions about the two biggest pop stars in the world, Taylor Swift and Beyonce. In regards to Swift, he said:

“I love Taylor Swift! Why all the hate? She’s an extraordinarily hard worker, she’s super fucking nice to everybody, and people hate her. She’s just the biggest pop star on Earth, and more power to her. I like the songs!”

He later added his admiration for the pop star’s character, saying:

“[Taylor is also] a good person on top of anything else Not that I know her, but hey, she tipped off her truck drivers 100 grand.”

So does Holt count himself as a Swiftie?

“I’m not a Swiftie, but when ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ comes on the radio, I don’t change it.”

As for Beyoncé, Holt is far less of a fan, stating:

“Beyoncé will put out a song and there’s 30 fucking people on it. How can 30 people write a song, all gathered together? It’s just like a factory of songwriting! Who even knows who did what anymore, when there are like 20 names on it.”

Later, he really twisted the knife, saying:

“I think Beyoncé is the most overrated talent on Earth. I think she’s marginally talented.”

Personally, I’ll never follow any pop stars, but I have to agree with Swift being more impressive than Beyoncé, as it seems like Swift at least genuinely writes her own songs. And, while it seems unlikely that a Swift/Slayer double-headliner show is likely to happen, it’s at least amusing to hear that Holt, of all people, is a fan of Swift.
