Jerry Cantrell to Release New Single “Vilified” Next Thursday

0

Well slap my ass and color me magenta — the great Jerry Cantrell‘s got some new music coming out and we don’t have to wait all that long to hear it. Three years after the release of his stellar solo album Brighten, the Alice In Chains guitarist/vocalist is releasing the first single next Thursday for what hopefully will be an entirely new solo album.

Unveiled via social media, the new track will be titled “Vilified”. We don’t know anything about the tune, nor have we heard any snippets of it, but I cannot fucking wait for more Jerry Cantrell. At the risk of gushing over it a little too much, all three of his solo albums are fucking superb. Which honestly shouldn’t be much of a surprise, given his proven songwriting ability with Alice in Chains.

If you’ve ever listened to the other albums before, then you’ll probably recognize how each one feels different from the other: Boggy Depot has a general feel of loss, regret, and unrequited love; Degradation Trip. Vols. 1 & 2 is a dark descent into depression and addiction; and Brighten feels like redemption is near by — Cantrell’s suffered the slings and arrows of his past and things are looking brighter.

With a title like “Vilified”, maybe we’re going back to a darker angle? Who knows? All I know is I’m insanely excited to find out more.

The reveal of Cantrell’s new track followed a brief period where his social media pointed to a video that typed out the phrase “as if you don’t know” that would link directly to his website. The site would repeat that phrase before letting you in to the site proper.

The single will be released the day before he heads out on tour with Bush and Candlebox. You can find the full list of dates below.
