Kiss’ “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” Has Been Streamed Over 1 Billion Times on Spotify

One of Kiss’ most popular songs, 1979’s “I Was Made For Lovin’ You,” just reached a significant milestone: it passed one billion streams on Spotify, joining a very elite club. According to Blabbermouth, Spotify’s Billions Club playlist was started in 2020 and, so far, has amassed over 500 songs. Whenever an artist achieves the 1 billion streams milestone, Spotify gives them a Billions Club plaque, and, I would assume, a check for about $2.25.

The songs on the Billions Club playlist includes a lot of the songs you would expect, songs like Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady,” Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks,” and a few songs from Taylor Swift. That’s not to say that Kiss becomes the first metal band to join the list, far from it. Some of the metal entries to the list include Linkin Park’s “In the End,” Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” and System of a Down’s “Chop Suey!”

“I Was Made for Lovin’ You” was the first single off of Kiss’ 1979 album Dynasty and was written by Kiss guitarist Paul Stanley and songwriter Desmond Child. It was one of the band’s most successful singles on its release, being their second gold single and reaching No. 11 on the Billboard singles chart. A disco-infused track, the song was controversial amongst Kiss’ fanbase as many thought they had sold out or betrayed their audience by giving into the disco monster. In fact, just last year, Kiss bassist Gene Simmons told Howard Stern that he has always hated the song, particularly the catchy “Do do do do do-do do doooo” part of the song. I’m sure he just absolutely hates how much money he made off the single as well.

So celebrate the milestone by rocking out to some disco Kiss. Do do do do-do do dooo!
