Ghost’s Flick Gets Global Online Steaming Premiere
It’s been a few weeks since Ghost‘s concert film/theatrical experience Rite Here Rite Now came and went in movie theaters around the world. And even though showtimes were limited to a select few days and times, the movie did pretty damn well at the box office. Yet since then, it’s been impossible to watch the movie — you can’t even find it on piracy sites… not that I looked…
In a bid to bring the movie to even more sets of eyeballs, Ghost is teaming up with streaming service Veeps to premiere the film in a single online streaming event set to take place on July 20. If you missed it in theaters, want to watch it again, or just want to secretly watch it so you can more effectively irrationally hate on the band, you’ll now have the chance in the comfort of your own home.
Rite Here Rite Now is based on live footage shot at the band’s two shows at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles last year. In addition to the concert bits, the film has some asides sprinkled throughout in an effort to also tell a story, which isn’t too far off from other rock movies like Metallica’s Through The Never or Led Zeppelin’s The Song Remains The Same. For fans, this is the latest lore dump that furthers the story of Papa Emeritus IV, Sister Imperator, and more characters.
The ability to watch Rite Here Rite Now at home will set you back a crisp $20, which feels like a lot to me. Still, once you pay for access to the streaming event, you will have to tune in on Veeps on Saturday, July 20 at 12 p.m. PST/3 p.m. EST. Fans can also purchase “tickets” for two weeks after the initial air date, with a 48-hour rewatch period after the ticket’s purchase.
I don’t know about you guys, but this whole thing seems like a lot of additional steps just to watch a movie. I know this is just Ghost and the people involved in the film trying to get multiple bites at the proverbial apple, but at some point it’s gotta be a little more consumer friendly, right? When is the damn thing coming out on blu-ray? No one knows.
