Exclusive Album Stream: Obscene’s Agony & Wounds Hits Like a Buzzsaw to the Face

I know a lot of us metal media folks talk a lot about nu metal’s resurgence and whatnot, but let’s get one thing absolutely crystal fucking clear: death metal in the modern era has been experiencing a renaissance for a long while now and metal’s in a better place because of it. That fact of life is only made more apparent when checking out bands like Indianapolis-based quartet Obscene, whose third full-length album Agony & Wounds you can now exclusively listen to ahead of its release here on MetalSucks.

Formerly known as Blood Chasm, this fearsome foursome comprised of bassist Roy Hayes, drummer Brandon Howe, guitarist Mike Morgan, and vocalist Kyle Shaw have seemingly crafted 11 new tracks aimed at spewing spite and vaulting vitriol at the unwashed masses.

As you can hear below, Agony & Wounds is fast, furious, dense, and vile in all the ways you want out of a modern death metal album. From the oppressively heavy “Death’s Denial” to the sonic battering ram that is “Watch Me When I Kill”, this album attacks from all angles like a pack of starving wolves.

Though we’ve featured album stream exclusives in the past, the band really understands our readership (you guys). As such, they provided a little message of encouragement as you scroll down and hit play.

“We are excited to share Agony & Wounds via the deeply informative and objectively unbiased crew at MetalSucks; The perfect emissary to fulfil our undying quest to keep machismo in metal! We expect the general readership of beer drinking powerlifting death metalists to respond accordingly. This record will smack you so hard, Corey Taylor’s jockstrap will fly out of your mouth.”

See? The dudes in Obscene get it — flattery will get you everywhere with us. Though I will neither confirm nor deny that and back alley dealings or promises of favors of various varieties were offered to feature this album stream.

What I can confirm, however, is the fact that Agony & Wounds will be released this Friday, July 12 via Nameless Grave Records. You can preorder your copy in a variety of formats either at the label’s webshop or over on Obscene’s Bandcamp page.

If you’re in Indianapolis later this week, you can catch these guys live as they celebrate the album release this Thursday, July 11 at the Black Circle. You can grab tickets here.
