I’m putting this thing together a few days ahead of when I normally do, so this is a bit of a weird one for me. Featuring current and former members from Malignancy and Chaos Inception, this death metal four-piece is dropping their debut album this week. If you like blast beats among some melodic sensibilities and soaring solos and you’ve got yourself a death metal stew goin’.

Liminal Shroud

Visions of Collapse (Willowtip Records)

Canadian. Black. Metal. This is Liminal Shroud’s third full-length album in four years, so if you liked their past work then you should like their take on big, booming, bad-feeling metal.

Vulvodynia

Entabeni (Unique Leader Records)

Hailing all the way from South Africa, this band’s slam deathcore sound crushes. If metal is the fireworks display, this one’s the big, booming mortar that wakes up the whole neighborhood.
