Escuela Grind Releases New Flexi Single “Distant Disrupter”

New England extreme metal/hardcore crew Escuela Grind is back whether you like it or not. The band released a new single via the Decibel Flexi Series yesterday called “Distant Disrupter.” It’s a compact little track that clocks in at only 1 minute and 15 seconds, but it packs an incredible punch.

Decibel is the only place to get the flexi itself, if there are even any left which seems unlikely a day later. The new track is not off the new Escuela Grind record that’s due out on MNRK Heavy this fall. Here’s what Decibel had to say on their Instagram post about the single:

“New England master blasters @escuelagrind will melt faces with a new full-length LP on MNRK Heavy this fall, but since your face can’t wait until then, so we’re bringing you a brand new track courtesy of the Decibel Flexi Series! Exclusive track “Distant Disruptor” delivers 75 blistering seconds of rabid deathgrind and will not be featured on the new Escuela Grind record!

“This lil’ ripper isn’t available anywhere else, but you can jam it at www.decibelmagazine.com now! Then head off to the dB store where we have an extremely limited amount of the issues containing the Escuela Grind flexi available.”

The song marks the first new news out of the band since the barrage of drama and accusations that came out surrounding the band earlier this year. For those of you who don’t remember the entire soap opera, it started in February when guitarist Thomas Sifuentes accused the band of replacing him after he voiced concerns about his own safety.

That was followed by the accusations that came out from a former driver for the band, Destiny Hopper, who accused drummer Jesse Fuentes of mistreating the band’s staff members, accused tour manager Chris Kotter of sexual harassment, and accused vocalist Katerina Economou of being a hypocrite and not being a real advocate for women and queer people, despite the singer’s public image. Guitarist Krissy Morash shot back at Hopper and denied much of Hopper’s version of events. Then the band finally released a statement that was apologetic, but also denied a lot of the accusations. That’s the short version of the controversy, and that’s before you even get into the freemason stuff.

Obviously the band wants to put the drama behind them and get back to making music, but it seems unlikely that anyone is going to let them forget what happened. Even the announcement of the flexi on social media seemed to be greeted with a small handful of comments, most of them disparaging the band. I’m not sure how warmly their new album is going to be greeted when it comes out.
