Oceans of Slumber Release Single “Poem of Ecstasy”
Houston-based metalheads Oceans of Slumber are awakened once again with a tidal wave of a new track “Poem of Ecstasy”. It’s the latest single from the band’s forthcoming album Where Gods Fear to Speak, due out on Friday, September 13. It looks like a lot of metal albums are going to be aiming for that Friday the 13th as a release date. Seems appropriate.
Along with the release of this single came an incredible performance video. Combining lead vocalist Cammie Beverly’s gorgeous singing voice with more distorted, demonic vocals and heavy-as-hell guitars, it’s both beautiful and crushing.
In a press statement, drummer and songwriter Dobber Beverly described the new album as a concept album with a science-fiction-meets-western theme, saying:
“Where Gods Fear to Speak exists somewhere between The Handmaid’s Tale, The Dark Tower, and Cormac McCarthy. It’s part science fiction, a part western gunslinger with a heavy dash of post-apocalyptic survival.
“Every time you make a new record, you think it’s the best, but ‘Poem of Ecstasy’ is easily one of the best songs we’ve ever written. It sounds like an energetic, pissed-off-band, with enigmatic storytelling and all those magical things.”
Beverly then continued, explaining:
“Sometimes, we’re so hellbent on pursuing our dreams that we lose sight of the people we’re fighting for. How can you save the world if you can’t even save yourself?”
It sounds like a fascinating concept for an album. Who hasn’t watched Blade Runner and said “I wish this was a heavy metal album!”? Okay, nobody has probably ever done that, but they should have.
