Sh*t That Comes Out Today: June 14, 2024
We’re already half way through June, so what are your favorite albums of the year so far? Let us know!
96 Bitter Beings
Return to Hellview (Nuclear Blast)
This ain’t your daddy’s CKY. No, this time around that band’s founding guitarist, vocalist and primary songwriter Deron Miller is back with his new band 96 Bitter Beings and he’s re-recorded some of the songs he wrote back in the day. Definitely check this out if you look back fondly on the days of teenage irresponsibility and pushing shopping carts full of your friends into nearby shrubbery.
Fu Manchu
The Return Of Tomorrow (At The Dojo Records)
American stoner rock titans Fu Manchu have been around for a long fuckin’ time — since 1985, officially. Since then, the band’s been a staple of that classic Palm Desert sound and this new record ain’t no different. With this being their thirteenth full-length offering, it’s got exactly the amount of fuzz-laden riffs and spaced out sound you want/need/expect.
Malignancy
…Discontinued (Willowtip Records)
Straight out of Yonkers, New York, this death metal band’s been around for more than 30 years, delivering brutal technical death metal to the masses. This time around, …Discontinued is chaos in sonic form, with a slightly more polished production this time around. We gave it a solid 4.5/5 in our review, stating that the band was “still more than capable of leaving you blinking, shaking your head, and murmuring, ‘what the fuck was that?‘”
Squid Pisser
Dreams of Puke (SKiN GRAFT Records)
Fans of noisy, glitchy, hardcore already know these wild and weird motherfuckers. At times, it sounds and feels like an art school project gone way too off the deep end. It’s frenetic in all the right and wrong ways, if that makes any sense. Mark Fisher, of SKiN GRAFT Records, described the album as “atonal anthems of slime are a kaleidoscope of brilliant, bespeckled rage that, in the end, will scalp the world & mutate the throne.”
Ulcerate
Cutting The Throat Of God (Debemur Morti Productions)
Brutal and dark, Ulcerate return with their seventh full-length studio album to bring you another slab of unrelenting technical death metal. This time around, it sounds like they’re intensely focused on dragging you, the listener, down as far as possible into the depths. This bad boy is full of despair and hopelessness, and we’re here for it.
