Prepare Your Wallets: Spotify is Increasing Its Monthly Price

0

How much do you like streaming your music through Spotify from pretty much every electronic device you own? Do you enjoy it enough to pay $11.99 a month? Because if not, you’re going to have to find another way to blast Cattle Decapitation through your internet-enabled grill this summer, as Spotify announced they’re raising the cost of its plans between $1 and $3 per month.

According to Spotify, the individual plan will increase by $1 to $11.99 a month, the Duo plan will go up by $2 to $16.99 per month, and the Family plan will jump by $3 to $19.99 per month. Student accounts, however, will remain unchanged at $5.99 a month.

The increases make Spotify among the most expensive music streaming platforms. In comparison, both Apple Music and TIDAL’s individual plan costs $10.99 per month, while their family plans cost $16.99 per month. Only TIDAL has a cheaper student plan than the other two platforms at $4.99 per month. The increases are set to take place next month, which interestingly enough is exactly one year since the company last hiked their monthly fees.

Spotify’s reasoning for the increase in subscription fees stems from the need to “continue to invest in and innovate on our product features and bring users the best experience.” It’s a particularly interesting comment to make, given the fact that the company’s been in hot water recently for dropping support of their Car Thing, among other major (costly) royalty changes.

So what do ya think? Are these price increases the last straw for you? Time to switch to Apple Music? Let us know in the comments.
