Leprous Release New Single “Atonement,” Announce New Album Melodies of Atonement
To atone for something is to make up for a wrong you’ve committed. It’s a mea culpa that’s more than just words, but rather actions, to fix a mistake you’ve made. And if Einar Solberg, frontman/songwriter of Norwegian progressive metal band Leprous is to be believed, their forthcoming studio album Melodies of Atonement seeks to do just that by stripping the band’s sound back to basics.
“The beginning of the process of writing melodies for the new album started right after our Aphelion tour in March of last year. The goal for that album was to remove all the orchestral elements and focus everything more around the actual members of the band. The symphonic parts, I will take further in my solo project later on. It’s a change for Leprous for sure. The goal was to be more straight-to-the-point and more pure, in a way, to emphasize our qualities more, by adding less.”
Set to release on August 30 via InsideOutMusic, this new slate of 10 songs marks the band’s eighth full-length studio effort and serves as their follow up to 2021’s Aphelion. To mark the occasion of today’s announcement, the band released the album’s first single “Atonement” along with its accompanying music video.
Solberg said the track in question may not be what fans expect, but that it will hopefully serve as a jumping off point for newcomers and oldheads alike.
“’Atonement’ is a different kind of single than what we’ve done before. It’s heavy, it’s catchy and it’s straight-to-the-point. It’s a song we believe will unify old and new fans at the same time as it has a fresh and new sound… This is the sound of Leprous in 2024.”
