Fans Find Easter Egg in Bring Me the Horizon’s New Album

0

Time to break out your decoder rings, super sleuths, because British metalcore act Bring Me the Horizon have come up with a deep rabbit hole for you to go down. Tech Crunch reports that one fan found a secret Easter egg hidden on the band’s new album Post Human: Nex Gen within one of the songs itself.

Apparently, it was an astute listener named Pal Kovacs who noticed something strange at the end of the final song on the album, called “Dig It.” Kovacs ran the song through the Audacity app and found a QR code embedded in the spectrogram of the song. When scanned, the QR code brings you to a secret website and that’s where the fun begins.

Once you get to the website, there’s a code that’s taken from the cover art (93934521) that you have to enter to access the site, and once you’re in there, the rabbit hole goes very, very deep. Deep enough that a metal journalist can really get distracted when she’s supposed to be writing an article. There’s a whole subreddit dedicated to deciphering the puzzle, and so far they’ve turned up some unreleased tracks and a whole bunch more mysteries.

Tech Crunch also reports that some people tried to hack the site to get ahead, and the site temporarily went down to be replaced by a warning that reads as follows:

“It appears user/s have been illicitly hacking into the M8 server to decode hidden secrets,” read the message from M8, the album’s guide, which multiple fans reported seeing in chats with TechCrunch. “It’s my duty to inform you that this behaviour is both naughty and counterproductive! You see, the whole idea of this program is to unravel the mysteries at a tantalizing pace, allowing everyone to enjoy the thrill of discovery. By bypassing the system and sharing the secrets prematurely, you’re spoiling the fun for everyone!”

And people who tried to hack the site also apparently received a warning message that reads:

“So a friendly warning: your recent unauthorized access to our website has not gone unnoticed. While I admire your enthusiasm, it’s time to address the consequences of your actions. If you continue to hack into the system, you’ll be permanently blocked from accessing any part of.

“Let’s play fair and enjoy the journey together. After all, a little patience goes a long way in making the experience truly enjoyable for everyone. So stop being a dips—t, and play fair!”

It’s unclear if the original email censored the word dipshit or if Tech Crunch did. It certainly wasn’t us. This is MetalSucks; go elsewhere to have your virgin ears shielded.

If you want to congratulate the band on such a fascinating gimmick, here’s where they’ll be over the next several months. Tickets available here.
