Exclusive Premiere: Check Out High Desert Queen’s New Album and Single Palm Reader

Stoner rock, desert rock, whatever you want to call it — kicks major ass. There’s something to be said about the beer-fueled, fuzz-infused riffs that bands in this musical landscape blast on a regular basis that just makes me want to hop into a 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 and break a few traffic laws.

Such is the case with Texas band High Desert Queen, whose upcoming album Palm Reader features some pretty groovy hooks sprinkled throughout their sophomore effort. And I’m willing to bet that if you let them, you too will get transported to some off-center reality where beer flows like water and cops don’t give a shit about what you’re doing.

To that end, we have the the exclusive first look to Palm Reader, which is due out tomorrow via Magnetic Eye Records. You can stream the entire album before it’s available for order or up on the various streaming platform. After listening to it, I have to say this shit is right up my alley and it should end up in yours too. It’s just fun, thanks to the riffs, the groove, and the attitude that permeates the entire thing. It’s heavy when it needs to be, and it’s definitely going to be my “let’s hang out and shoot the shit” kinda music.

As for the album’s single of the same name, “Palm Reader,” it’s a driving force, man. Vocalist Ryan Garney said the song came about from some fun in the recording studio that kickstarted the writing process for the track.

“The song ‘Palm Reader’ was completely created in the studio when Phil started playing the drum beat as a joke. We were all laughing until Rusty ripped the intro guitar riff. Within an hour we had the music completely written. In fact, what you’re hearing on the record is what we created in real time. No overdubs were necessary since we captured the ‘live feel’ we felt it needed, and all of us love how uptempo the song is and how much it grooves. It’s not like anything we’ve written before, and we knew right away it needed to make the record.”

The accompanying music video also has that tongue-in-cheek, slightly irreverent side that you can sort of hear throughout High Desert Queen’s music. And it’s incredibly relatable — who wants to work out when pizza and beer taste so god damn good?!

You can check out the “Palm Reader” single and video below, along with the entire album. If you’d like to, you can preorder Palm Reader today, or catch it tomorrow wherever you purchase or stream your music.
