Mayhem Festival to Announce Its Comeback Next Week
Stop me if you’ve heard this recently… A defunct festival that’s been away for nine years is about to announce its return and as such, the hype machine is winding up. Fans are excited, so expectations are likely to only grow as we get closer and closer to the reveal. No, we’re not talking about Summer Slaughter (though some commenters are doing that for me), we’re talking about Mayhem Fest and its apparent return.
The formerly annual tour that originally ran from 2008 to 2015 featured all kinds of big name bands and up-and-comers throughout the years. And while there were rumors of the show coming back in 2020 and again in 2021, those didn’t pan out. Yet earlier today, organizers involved with the festival posted an Instagram story announcing that there would be an announcement next week.
Ah, the old announcement of an announcement. Gotta love it.
Now, that’s not to say that we didn’t have a feeling the tour was coming back. Six weeks ago, the IG account posted an image of Rocky knocking out Ivan Drago from Rocky IV, saying “we settle the score in twenty four.” If that’s not an obvious “we’re coming back” post, I don’t know what is.
We’ll have to see what the lineup will look like, especially given the fact that bands like Slayer, Thy Art Is Murder, King Diamond, Slipknot, and a whole lot more played the festival back in the day. With some of those bands still making the rounds to this day, this could be a crazy show. Or it could be a disappointment. We’ll just have to wait and find out.
