Oral Surgery Kept Slipknot’s Clown from Performing at Sonic Temple

0

In recent months, it’s sometimes felt like the Slipknot roster’s been a revolving door, with members leaving and being replaced left and right. Hell, we still don’t really know who replaced Craig “133” Jones. So when founding percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan was missing as the iconic band showed up to Sonic Temple over the weekend, some fans would be right to start wondering exactly what was going on.

As it turns out, Crahan’s absence is entirely temporary and the result of a medical issue. During the show, frontman Corey Taylor addressed the absence, revealing that an unexpected dental issue forced the percussionist to stay home.

“Obviously we are missing one of our brothers. Clown, yesterday, broke a tooth and had to have it removed. There’s an issue. He had to stay home for medical reasons. But he insisted that we come here and fucking play this fucking show for each and every goddamn one of you.

“He is missed, he is essential and, god damn it, on the count of three, I want you to fucking tell him all that he is so fucking loved. I want to hear you scream — one, two, three!”

If you’ve ever broken a tooth or had to undergo emergency oral surgery, you know how much that sucks. Having gone through that myself, I wouldn’t wish it on (most of) my enemies. Shit hurts so bad you can barely think, so I definitely feel for Crahan.

We don’t know how long Crahan’s going to be sidelined for, but it’s good to know that he’ll be back in the fold sooner rather than later. After all, they’re probably gonna need him to perform their new single “Long May You Die” for the first time live in the near future. That one’s the band’s first new song with drummer Eloy Casagrande and Jones’ replacement in the fold, so it’s a pretty big deal.

All we know about the single is that it was worked on as part of Casagrande’s tryout for the band and that it’s coming soon. Casagrande outlined what went into his selection in a recent interview.

“[The band] asked me to extend my stay by another 5 days, so we could record some things,” he said. “I think that was also part of the audition, they threw new ideas at me to see what my songwriting was like. They wanted to test me in every way.”
