Slipknot Announces First New Song with Eloy Casagrande
It feels like we write so much about the newest incarnation of Slipknot around here that we might as well change our name to SlipknotSucks.net. But the band keeps pumping out news, and we’re going to keep writing about it. Sorry.
Yesterday, the band posted on Instagram confirming rumors that they have a new song written with new drummer Eloy Casagrande. Here’s what they had to say on Instagram:
“Slipknot fans are talking amongst themselves about ‘Long May You Die’ being a new song written during the recent recording sessions.
“‘You’re right. You’re absolutely right.’”
It’s unclear why exactly those last two sentences are in quotes. Who are they quoting? Themselves? It’s a weird choice. But even weirder is the fact that they didn’t mention anything about when this single is going to come out. All we know is that there’s a song called “Long May You Die” that may or may not be coming out at some point in the near future. It’s really not a very informative post.
Casagrande did give an interview recently where he detailed the extensive, 10-day long audition process that he went through to join the band, which seems a little backwards as it seems that the drummer from Sepultra should be auditioning Slipknot and not the other way around. Casagrande stated in the interview that the band had written new material together during his audition session, but had shelved it so they could focus on celebrating their 25th anniversary. So it’s possible that this new single is not going to see the light of day until 2025. But, if that’s the case, it’s kind of a dick move to start talking about it on Instagram now. But, considering the accounts from the band’s former drummer Jay Weinberg about how he was unceremoniously fired, it would seem that dick moves are kind of Slipknot’s specialty.
If you want to catch Slipknot live, you’re certainly going to have a chance moving forward, as they’ve got a North American tour lined up for later this summer, followed by an E.U./U.K. run. You can find the list of dates below.
