Cavalera Releasing Schizophrenia Re-Recording, First Single “Escape To The Void” Out Now
The ongoing push by Cavalera brothers Max and Iggor to re-record and revisit their past work with Sepultura continues, as they’ve announced earlier today that they’re putting out a new version of the 1987 album Schizophrenia.
Originally released as Sepultura’s sophomore full-length, the band is effectively calling this the “final chapter of their early-days trilogy.” You may recall that Cavalera previously released completely re-recorded versions of Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation. In both of those instances, the band tried to inject some modern intensity to those already intense albums.
According to Max Cavalera, this particular album is an important one for the thrash and death metal genres, so revisiting it was long overdue.
“The Third World Trilogy is finally complete with Schizophrenia, Bestial Devastation, and Morbid Visions, all three Brazilian underground gems! To me, Schizophrenia is the ultimate death/ thrash experiment! I was inspired to take on the world and this recording shows my commitment is relentless! This one is for all the generations to enjoy! Play at Max volume!”
Similarly, Iggor Cavalera looked back at 1987 and Schizophrenia‘s place in the metal world, comparing it to some pretty important releases that year.
“1987 was a very progressive year for metal, with releases like Celtic Frost Into The Pandemonium, Voivod Killing Technology, and Bathory Under The Sign Of The Black Mark, so it was no surprise on how we approached Schizophrenia pushing our boundaries from a black/death metal sound to a more thrash metal aesthetics. We still had some ideas from Morbid Visions and some new songs. I’m very proud of the songwriting and even more proud of our re-recordings.”
In addition to the re-recording announcement, the band also have a tour coming up in June and July titled the ‘Third World Trilogy EU/UK Tour’. You can find the full list of dates below.
