Black Tusk
The Way Forward (Season Of Mist)
For their sixth full-length studio effort, Georgian sludge metal monsters Black Tusk are back with the same heavy-hitting attitude you’d expect of them, while also bringing some hard-earned maturity to the fore. These guys have been through some shit over the last few years and despite those hardships, The Way Forward is proof that these guys can still kick ass nearly two decades into their career.
Darkthrone
It Beckons Us All (Peaceville Records)
Ah, the classic combination of Fenriz and Nocturno Culto. Shambling out of the cold Norwegian wilds once again, these guys have been making death metal, black metal, and whatever-the-fuck-they-want metal for nearly 40 years. Today’s release is the latest chapter in their constant push to move their ever-evolving sound further than before.
Deicide
Banished By Sin (Reigning Phoenix Music)
Don’t let the A.I.-generated cover art turn you off. This classic death metal band still ain’t fucking around even after all these years. With founding members Glen Benton and Steve Asheim still at the helm, Banished By Sin is every bit as blasphemous and brutal as you’d expect of the band in 2024.
Full Of Hell
Coagulated Bliss (Closed Casket Activities)
Bursting with potent rage and blunting despair, Full Of Hell’s Coagulated Bliss takes the “everyday horros of life in small town America” and uses that to permeate the album with a sense of dread. This latest release finds the band occasionally adopting more traditional song structures while still diving head first into the extremes.
Inter Arma
New Heaven (Relapse Records)
Dissonant, deep, dark, dense… all words that can easily describe New Heaven. Known for melding doom metal, death metal, and black metal all within their sound, Inter Arma have created something that feels like you’re caught in a whirlpool in the middle of an oppressive thunderstorm while your vision’s growing dim.
