Overkill, Armored Saint, Exodus, and Ex-Machine Head Members Have Formed a New Supergroup
Everybody loves a crossover episode and they sure as hell enjoy a good supergroup, so today’s news about a band comprised entirely of all-stars should make lots of people excited.
Category 7, the new band comprised of vocalist John Bush, guitarists Phil Demmel and Mike Orlando, bassist Jack Gibson, and drummer Jason Bittner, already has plans to release its debut record this summer on Metal Blade Records. Given the fact that all those guys have experience playing in major bands like Anthrax, Armored Saint, Exodus, Overkill, Shadows Fall… the list goes on… it’s safe to assume that their first single will probably kick ass when it comes out on May 2.
Speaking of the band’s existence, Bush said working on the band’s music was incredibly easy because of the level of talent found within its ranks.
“Mike Orlando’s and Phil Demmel’s awesome riffs made writing lyrics over the music a piece of cake. The rhythm tandem of Bittner and Gibson rounded out the sound and the connection felt like it was put together in the stars. Obviously, everyone being a veteran of the metal scene made it that much easier.”
It’s important though that if you’re expecting some melt-your-face-off thrash metal, you might be sorely mistaken. In nearly every description of the band’s sound, it points more to some good old fashioned hard rock. With lofty comparisons to the great Thin Lizzy, that’s enough for myself to get super stoked about this thing.
Metal Blade Records’ founder Brian Slagel is super stoked too, saying signing the band was a no-brainer.
“Happy to welcome Category 7 into the Metal Blade family. Of course, some of them are already in! Seriously love working with this crew and it’s great stuff!”
So I don’t know about you, but I am super stoked to hear what this band’s got coming down the pipe.
