Sh*t That Comes Out Today – April 5, 2024
It’s Wrestlemania weekend and with it being in Philly, everyone in the area’s talking about big men slapping meat. Can’t wait to spend time with friends this weekend smokin’ bud and hopefully witnessing Cody Rhodes finish his story with some new metal releases serving as background music to get me pumped before both nights.
Alpha Wolf
Half Living Things (SharpTone Records)
From failed walls of death to calling out venue merch cuts, Australian metalcore outfit Alpha Wolf has been in the headlines for a while now, but their new release Half Living Things should really be all we’re talking about. If you like your music to be a little fluid with its genre boundaries while still remaining a great ass kicking soundtrack, definitely check this out.
Ingested
The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams (Metal Blade Records)
Ingested’s brand of U.K. death metal is brutal as fuck and The Tide Of Death And Fractured Dreams is further proof of that. At just 45 minutes long, this is bordering on EP territory, but this album’s 10 tracks are dense as hell. And while it’s technically impressive and full of fury right out of the gate, what’s just as impressive is the band’s willingness to get creative and explore with their sound along the way.
Locrian
End Terrain (Profound Lore)
Mixing black metal, drone, electronic music, and noise rock to create their unique sound, Locrian’s new album End Terrain seeks to push the envelope in new and exciting ways. According to the trio, End Terrain is a concept album that features “a vision of a future earth consumed by waste. An apocalyptic landscape, inhabited by a generation who despise their parentage and a dying breed fully aware of the wasteland they have left.” You know — totally not like the real world at all…
Temple Of The Fuzz Witch
Apotheosis (Ripple Music)
I can’t imagine how dismally soul crushing Michigan winters have to be for a band like Temple Of The Fuzz Witch to create the kind of blackened doom they put together on this record. The riffs are big and fuzzy with some crunch to ’em, while frontman Noah Bruner’s ability to channel black metal growls before effortlessly switching to his cleans without a single break is impressive. It’s just dark and heavy doom with a little bit of black metal mixed with a healthy diet of catchy riffage.
Witch Vomit
Funeral Sanctum (20 Buck Spin)
If one word to describe Witch Vomit’s Funeral Sanctum, it would be merciless. I dare you to try not to bang your head to this slab of no bullshit death metal, because I fucking couldn’t. With this being their third album, you can tell that they’re evolving as musicians, while still drawing from the titans of death metal that came before them.
