Better Lovers Get All Little Shop of Horrors with Their New Single “The Flowering”

0

With the announcement of their debut album surely coming up in the near future, it’s hard not to get excited at the prospect of hearing new music from Better Lovers. Pretty much every track they’ve released so far has been a banger and their newest track “The Flowering,” released earlier today, continues that trend.

Released ahead of the band’s upcoming North American tour this spring, the track is three minutes of the sort of explosive energy. It’s effectively what you’d expect from a band that basically tosses the sound of Every Time I Die, Fit for an Autopsy, and The Dillinger Escape Plan into a blender and turned it on. Which makes sense since Better Lovers is made up of Jordan Buckley, Clayton “Goose” Holyoak, Stephen Micciche, Will Putney, and Puciato.

Couple all that with a campy as fuck video that has serious Little Shop of Horrors vibes and you’ve got a recipe for at least an interesting single release. According to vocalist Greg Puciato, you’ve already heard this one if you’ve managed to catch Better Lovers live, though this version definitely has some more polish on it.

“’The Flowering” is a song we’ve been playing live since day one. It came from the same batch as the God Made Me An Animal EP, so it’s nice to finally have it recorded and out there. It’s a perfect example of how Jordan, Mitch, Goose, and Will playing together sounds like an absolute freight train. Being able to play this live so many times before recording it really amplified that even more, really deepened the groove of it, the music swings so fucking hard. Not to mention the video is one of my favorite videos I’ve ever been a part of.

“The title and lyrics are an obvious metaphor for realizing that we are all more than what we’re conditioned to believe, and acknowledging the collective ‘waking up’ moment that we all seem to be going through right now.”

According to the band, they started work in the studio on their debut album this past January and have just recently wrapped things up there. Now, their sights are set on the long run of tour dates they have coming up.
