Cryptopsy Take Home Juno Award for As Gomorrah Burns
Back in February, we joked/were totally serious about how Canada just does music awards better. Their Juno Awards regularly features amazing metal acts and new releases, whereas the GRAMMYs here in the states barely acknowledge metal’s existence.
All of that’s prologue though, because last night during the Juno Awards’ ceremonies Halifax, Nova Scotia on March 24, Cryptopsy took home the gold for their latest album As Gommorah Burns. To refresh your memory, this was the entire category for the 2024 Metal/Hard Music Album Of The Year Award:
- Cryptopsy – As Gomorrah Burns
- Danko Jones – Electric Sounds
- Kataklysm – Goliath
- KEN Mode – VOID
- Voivod – Morgöth Tales
Talk about stacked, man. Each of those offerings had a realistic of taking home the gold, but in the end it was Cryptopsy that ended up with the dub.
This ain’t the first time Canada’s handed some serious hardware to their metal and hard rock winners. Last year, Voivod won for the album Synchro Anarchy. The year before that, Archspire won the award for Bleed The Future.
So yeah. Fuck the GRAMMYs. We’ve got the Juno Awards from our friends up north to celebrate our favorite artists, thank you very much.
