Lemmy’s Ashes Will End Up at Rainbow Bar & Grill in West Hollywood

A portion of the late, great Lemmy Kilmister’s ashes will soon end up at one of the most fitting final resting places — the Rainbow Bar & Grill in West Hollywood, California. And if you know your Lemmy lore, you know why that’s a big deal.

Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister of Motörhead frontman fame passed away in December 2015. Some of his ashes were given to friends like Rob HalfordDoro Pesch, and Whitfield Crane, and some were scattered at the Wacken Open Air music festival in August 2023. This plan, however, makes perfect sense.

A ceremony to enshrine the ashes will happen April 19 at 9 p.m. PST, and fans will be invited to come check out a new signature whisky and join in the celebration of life.

Since his passing, Rainbow made the news because owner Mikael Maglieri allegedly brought Lemmy a video game machine that he used to play at the bar when he was too weak to leave his apartment in his final days. Lemmy’s manager Todd Singerman said the Rainbow bar and the frontman were closely linked in his final days.

“He [Lemmy] gets home [from tour], we have a big birthday party for him at the Whisky a Go Go. His friends came down and played. Two days later I could tell he wasn’t feeling good. So we took him to the hospital. They release him. Then after the brain scan, they found the cancer in his brain and his neck. The doctor comes with the result a couple of days later and says ‘It’s terminal.’”

The ashes will be enshrined alongside a statue to commemorate the late frontman that already exists at the bar.

This new dedication of his ashes comes not far after officials in Burslem, England approved a huge statue in Lemmy’s honor. These tributes show that Lemmy will never be forgotten as long as there are dedicated metal fans around to raise a glass of whisky and celebrate his life.
