Melvins’ Latest Single “Addicted To Food” Features More Calculated Chaos
With their South Asian tour all wrapped up, the dudes behind Melvins have dropped the second single off their forthcoming album Tarantula Heart and boy, it’s fuckin’ wild. This new jam, “Allergic to Food,” is just frenetic energy bouncing off the walls at random intervals. It’s considered madness in sonic form that sort of shifts into place like one of those magic eye things — listen to it long enough and you’ll start to get it.
As you may expect, the song is particularly wild in the percussion department, since Tarantula Heart features two drummers: Dave Crover and Roy Mayorga. According to Crover, the duo worked in tandem to create something chaotic and different.
“The majority of Tarantula Heart has dual drum parts. Roy is an amazing drummer. We would discuss what we would do pattern wise, then we’d just go for it. Improvising riffs and trading off on drum fills.”
Along with Mayorga’s inclusion with the album, We Are The Asteroid guitarist Gary Chester joins the other guys on the record. The album was mixed, co-produced and recorded by Toshi Kasai.
Tarantula Heart will be released on April 19 via Ipecac Recordings, though you can preorder your copy today.
