Ministry Releases Video for “New Religion” Alongside Album Release
Ministry dropped their latest album Hopiumforthemasses yesterday, and with it they put out a new video for the track “New Religion.” The new song is the sort of banger we’ve come to expect from the band. The video is slamming religion in the typical Ministry style of cynicism, sarcasm, and complete lack of subtlety. And while that lack of subtlety in Ministry is endearing at times, the animation of frontman Al Jourgensen as Jesus on the cross was so unintentionally funny I needed to take a screenshot of it.
I don’t know if it’s just because the head looks grotesquely large for that body, or that the animation makes South Park look complex, or because the idea of Jourgensen as a holy man is absolutely ludicrous, but this is the most hilarious image in a music video in a long time.
In a statement reported on by Lambgoat, Jourgensen had this to say about the new single:
“All traditional faiths seem to pale in comparison to our new ‘Deity’ Media.”
Once again, Ministry is a lot of things, and badass they are, but subtle and nuanced they are not.
The album is nine tracks of unadulterated Ministry industrial fury, and features guest appearances from the likes of Gogol Bordello frontman Eugene Hutz, legendary Dead Kennedy’s frontman and overall pissed-off dude Jello Biafra, and Corrosion of Conformity’s Pepper Keenan. With song titles like “Just Stop Oil,” “Goddamn White Trash,” and “Aryan Embarassment,” it’s pretty easy to see what Ministry think about the issues in our current political climate.
If you want to pick up your own copy of Hopiumforthemasses you can do so through the store at Nuclear Blast Records.
