Hate the Slayer Reunion? Gary Holt’s Wife Suggests You “Don’t Go” Then
Yesterday’s news regarding Slayer‘s apparent return may not have been the most surprising thing in the world, given how “farewell” tours go these days, but it definitely elicited a wide range of reactions from fans. As people are wont to do on the internet, a lot of the response was negative, with fans either bitching that it’s a “cash grab” or something along those lines.
Well, Slayer guitarist Gary Holt‘s wife Lisa Holt ain’t here for those takes at all. Over on her Facebook page, she wrote a retort to the people coming out of the woodwork to shit on Slayer’s two announced dates.
“Yes, it’s true..and an exciting adventure for the band and fans ! To all the people saying ‘they are liars’ ‘they must have ran out of money’ ‘its not Slayer without so and so’ ..I have an idea for you all…DON’T GO.. and for all the people who did go to the final tour dates and enjoyed it…awesome!!
“This isn’t a ‘TOUR’ it’s some dates..and GREAT NEWS!!! And everyone that thinks they know all the inside info..you can’t possibly know. so just enjoy the fact that this amazing band will play some amazing shows this year…go or don’t..nobody cares!!!!!”
As of this writing, Slayer’s only committed to playing this year’s Riot Fest on September 22 and Louder Than Life on Friday, September 27. And while I personally think it’s doubtful that those will be the only dates we get — remember, Pantera said they were only doing festival dates too — whether or not they decide to extend their time on the road is their prerogative. Just as Lisa Holt said — go or don’t, it doesn’t matter.
To further compare to another major “reunion” announcement in recent years, fans are now saying that the Slayer reunion isn’t real because there’s no Dave Lombardo or Jeff Hanneman, reflecting what many people said about Pantera’s return.
And while I can sort of see where people are coming from with the lack of Dimebag and Vinnie Paul, I think people have to realize that when Slayer hung it up back in 2019, Lombardo had been out of the band for about six years. Hanneman had also passed away roughly six years prior. The band we’re getting, for all intents and purposes, is Slayer as we know it.
