High On Fire Announce New Album Cometh the Storm, Unleash Single “Burning Down”
Ohhhhhhhhh shit.
High on Fire is back and damn it if their new album Cometh the Storm isn’t already in the conversation for one of the most anticipated albums of 2024. Set to release on April 19 via MNRK Heavy, the only complaint I can muster right now is that we don’t have the album in our grubby little mitts right this second.
As you can hear from the (sadly AI generated) video below, the album’s first single “Burning Down” is a heavy, sludge-laden stoner metal backbreaker. Bassist Jeff Matz said fans of old school High on Fire will feel right at home with this one.
“’Burning Down’ kicks off with a classic Pike riff. I think this song harkens back to the early High on Fire sound, but infused with fresh, new elements. It has a killer groove that you can really sink into. The body of the song took shape in our PNW rehearsal space, and we came up with the bridge/solo section and finalized the arrangement while we were at GodCity. Kurt Ballou’s input as a producer was also hugely helpful. His keen ears and fresh perspective were invaluable in making this album.”
With this new album being the follow up to the band’s GRAMMY-winning 2018 album Electric Messiah, there’s a lot of expectations placed on Cometh the Storm. Given what we hear in the new single, things are looking bright as hell for High on Fire during their 25th anniversary year.
