Coalesce to Reunite at This Year’s Furnace Fest
Metalcore band Coalesce announced they will be playing their first show in 12 years this fall at Furnace Fest 2024.
The famous metalcore band will light up the stage in Birmingham, AL for a performance that fans should absolutely try their damnedest to see. And since this year’s Furnace Fest is being billed as “the end of an era,” we bet it will be packed.
Initially hailing from Kansas City, the band started in the ’90s under the name Breach, changing their name in 1994. They’ve released five albums, Give Them Rope (1997), Functioning On Impatience (1998), Revolution In Just Listening (1999), There Is Nothing New Under The Sun (1999), and Ox (2009).
In an interview in 2021, vocalist Sean Ingram shared the band’s mantra about making music.
“So, we always had a thing, internally, that went: ‘Blood and scars, not computer-chip guitars.’ To us, we definitely weren’t like a tech-metal precise thing; we always wanted to have feel. Now, as far as how it panned out with math and all of that stuff, I had no clue what a 4/4 beat was, and actually I think Coalesce ruined me on 4/4 beats because, to me, a 4/4 beat, it’s a 5/5, I’m so used to writing 5/5; it just sounds more natural to me. So when we were doing 4/4 later on, like on the Salt And Passage, I kept messing it up in the studio, and they were like, ‘Sean it’s not 5/5.’”
Furnace Fest will take place October 4-6 this year at the Sloss Furnaces. Here is the lineup so far:
Underoath (performing They’re Only Chasing Safety)
Poison The Well
Snapcase
Shai Hulud (That Within Blood Ill-Tempered lineup)
Unearth
Evergreen Terrace
Stretch Armstrong
Skycamefalling
Stay tuned for more announcements about the fest as it gets closer.
