After 13 Years, Kittie Kick Off Their Latest Chapter with “Eyes Wide Open”

0

They’ve been building up to this moment for a while now, but it’s finally come to pass — Kittie’s back with their first brand new song in 13 years. And while that’s a long ass time to wait for anything, fans of the band are likely to lose their fuckin’ minds over “Eyes Wide Open.”

Right from the start, this new track’s got the kind of riff that can’t be denied. Paired with the tight rhythms and vocalist Morgan Lander’s searing vocals, you’ve got one hell of a return. It’s almost like they wanted to kick down every single door on their way back to the scene. At least that’s the vibe I get from Morgan Lander.

“Our first new material in 13 years, ‘Eyes Wide Open’ is a vision quest for truth. It is a torch lit in the darkness of ignorance to reveal one’s true motives. ‘Eyes Wide Open’ is a lesson in trust, betrayal, and ultimately the ability to see behind the curtain to reveal all. It was one of the first songs we wrote, coming together again after a long time away from creating, and I think you can really hear the fires reigniting in this track.”

For those that don’t remember, this sort of reunion and revitalization of Kittie seemed almost impossible at one point, especially following the untimely passing of bassist Trish Doan back in 2017. Yet thanks to the resurgence of nu metal in recent years, interest in seeing Kittie come back from the brink grew, even if the band hadn’t really been a part of that genre since their debut.

Still, that swelling of support from past and new fans eventually led to today’s release, as well as the announcement that the band has signed with Sumerian Records. Morgan reflected on today’s big news, stating that she and her bandmates were incredibly excited to see where this new run takes them.

“Sometimes, incredible opportunities present themselves in surprising ways. Just a few years ago we could have never imagined we would be getting ready to release new music as Kittie. We’ve been given what feels like a second life and are grateful to Ash and the Sumerian family for believing in us.”

Speaking of the band’s signing, Sumerian Records Founder and CEO Ash Avildsen expressed his excitement in signing Kittie during their return to the fore.

“Kittie are true female pioneers in heavy music that helped bring it into pop culture. They have been both influential in the studio and on the road, as I’ve had the privilege of working with them on touring years ago when they brought out Bring Me The Horizon, In This Moment and many other present day heavyweights as brand new opening acts. The ladies have now returned with what I believe is their greatest album since their debut that set the world ablaze. The attitude, grit and songwriting is all there and I am honored to once again be helping them unleash their talent to the masses.”

Though we know they’ve been working on a full-length album, today’s apparently not the day to share more info on that front. Still, as you can hear in the new track and see in the accompanying video below, Kittie isn’t playing around anymore.
