Exocrine
Legend (Season of Mist)
Leading up to today’s release, every single that came out from Exocrine’s sixth studio effort Legend just sounded absolutely massive. This one hits like a fucking 12 ton truck that had its brake lines cut.
Lucifer
Lucifer V (Nuclear Blast)
Doomy, heavy, occult rock/metal sulks and slinks on this one. As with the rest of their output, Lucifer’s music here drips in its influences, pulling from the likes of Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple and Fleetwood Mac to create something all their own. Satanic panic is alive with this one.
Manticora
Mycelium (Mighty Music)
Danish progressive power metal act Manticora’s 10th studio effort is as big and as grandiose as you’d expect. And while it’s definitely virtuosic, this concept album puts the band’s more aggressive side front and center, while still managing to show off their technical prowess.
Static-X
Project: Regeneration, Vol. 2 (Obstego Entertainment Group)
Evil disco lives on in this latest release from the revived Static-X. Featuring a baker’s dozen of brand new songs featuring the final vocal performances of the late Wayne Static, this is definitely a release that fans won’t want to miss. It’ll be 10 years since Static’s passing later this year, but at least he can live on through this release.
Vitriol
Suffer & Become (Century Media)
If there was one word to describe the latest album from Portland, Oregon’s death metal slammers Vitriol, it would be “relentless.” Suffer & Become is take no prisoners aggression in sonic form. The fury is palpable, creating a 42-minute gauntlet of misanthropic contempt.
