Ex-Mr. Bungle Member Arrested and Charged for Allegedly Murdering His Girlfriend
Things sure aren’t looking good for ex-Mr. Bungle member and accused murderer Theobald Brooks “Theo” Lengyel, as he’s now in police custody for the alleged murder of his girlfriend Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani. We reported on the case last month, when police formally named Lengyel, 54, as a person of interest in the then-missing persons case out of Humboldt County, California.
In an official statement from the Capitola police department, officials said Lengyel’s capture yesterday was the result of “diligent work” by detectives on the case.
“The diligent work of our investigators, in coordination with our law enforcement partners, has led to the apprehension of Theobald Lengyel in connection with the tragic homicide of Alice Kamakaokalanil. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.
According to police, Kamakaokalani was last seen alive on December 3, but an investigation into her disappearance by the Capitola Police Department and the El Cerrito Police Department hadn’t begun until December 12. Police familiar with the case told local ABC affiliate KRCR that it didn’t take long for investigators to suspect foul play, with Lengyel being named as the chief suspect. Police eventually found the 61-year-old woman’s remains in Tilden Regional Park in Berkley, California and the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office confirmed it was the missing woman through DNA analysis.
According to KRCR, Lengyel and Kamakaokalani were previously married, but ultimately filed for divorce in 2017 following a domestic violence incident. Kamakaokalani filed a restraining order against Lengyel, but it seems the two had gotten back together at a later date.
Lengyel is known in the metal world for playing saxophone, clarinet, and keyboards in Mr. Bungle from 1986 to 1995. He is on releases from The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny in 1986 to Disco Volante in 1995. Mr. Bungle bassist Trevor Dunn has gone on record in the past stating that Lengyel was let go from the band because he wasn’t working out within the group as a musician.
“We unanimously decided to go on without him because he wasn’t growing with the rest of the band and we were running out of things for him to do. He got pissed off and I haven’t heard from him since.”
Police urge that this remains an active and open investigation. Keep an eye out for any future developments.
